What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are metal posts attached to your jaw, replacing the root portion of a missing tooth. Once a replacement tooth is in place, it looks and functions just like a natural tooth.

Benefits of Dental Implants

Natural Look and Feel

Dental implants form the foundation for new artificial teeth that look and function just like your natural teeth to enhance your smile.

Preserved Jaw Health

Dental implants help maintain the bone density of your jaw and restore your face’s shape.

Improved Speech

Dental implants can allow you to speak more clearly and naturally, and you won’t have to worry about dentures moving or slipping.

Easier Eating

By providing a stable foundation for a replacement tooth, dental implants can make it simpler to eat a wider variety of foods without pain.

Improved Oral Health

By functioning like natural teeth and leaving nearby healthy teeth intact, dental implants can make it easier to maintain oral hygiene.

Durability and Longevity

Because dental implants are integrated into the jawbone, they’re secure in your mouth, offering a long-lasting solution.

The Dental Implant Process

Here’s what to expect when you get dental implants at All Smiles Family Dentistry:

1

Initial Consultation

Your dentist will first need to review your medical history and do a full dental exam with x-rays and imaging. This will allow them to form a personalized treatment plan. In some cases, a bone grafting process may be recommended to ensure successful implantation.

2

Implant Procedure

The next step is the actual dental implant placement. After administering anesthesia, we make an incision in the gum, drill a small hole in the jawbone, and place the implant post.

3

Healing Period

The process pauses while your jaw grows to bond with the implant. This can take a few weeks or months, depending on the extent of your procedure.

4

Abutment Placement

Once the dental implant has bonded to the jawbone, a small connector post called an abutment is attached to the metal implant post.

5

Tooth Attachment

In the final step, an impression of the area is taken, and an artificial tooth is attached to the implant.
